Visionary Ecological Theater *

Mountain Moon is a one-woman-band vegan permaculture microfarm, regenative food forest, and licensed plant nursery based in Paw Paw, West Virginia. I am passionate about exploring vegan permaculture, and take a very experimental approach to my process. Everything is grown using veganic methods and is 100% pesticide and herbicide free.

This dream has its earliest roots in my quasi-feral childhood in Alaska, which mostly involved endless hours of wandering around what my brother and I called “the magical green forest” and inventing (or intuiting) various rituals and ways of communicating with the plants and animals there. I got sidetracked for a while in the hustle and bustle of city life, but in the last few years I’ve come back to my roots and have thrown myself into all things permaculture/natureculture and am always investigating new methods of growing and stewarding my little patch of land with as little harm as possible.

Please take a look around and reach out if you have any questions. I am a very small operation so I may have other food forest-type plants available in small quantities that are not listed here and I am adding new things all the time, experimenting with growing new things by seed, and discovering new plants (or “characters,” as my fellow permaculture enthusiast Sean Dembrosky calls them) to add to my own food forest and share with you.

If you’d like to join the mailing list with the link at the bottom of this page, I’ll also keep you updated with news and updates on future community projects and retreats here.

* “Visionary Ecological Theater” is a phrase coined by the late great Joe Hollis of Mountain Gardens—RIP. I think it very evocatively describes my intentions with Mountain Moon.

Here’s some of what I grow (a partial list!) You can also view and order from the store at https://store.mountainmoonfarm.com. Note that most of the plants listed ship during the dormant season (roughly Nov-March, depending on the plant, so you are generally although not always pre-ordering if you are outside of that season.) If you fancy any of these plants and would like to arrange a donation or barter, please reach out: jen@mountainmoonfarm.com. I am flexible and want people to have access to these amazing “characters,” as my fellow permaculture enthusiast Sean Dembrosky calls his plants.
